Sporting events in Fuerteventura in 2018

Do you like sports? If so, this is the post for you. Fuerteventura has various sporting events throughout the year and today we will share some of them with you. Take note and get ready for your special holiday!

Windsurfing: World Championship of Sotavento

26th July – 4th August, 2018

In Summer, the world’s best windsurfers will gather in Sotavent Beach of Pájara, Fuerteventura, to compete for over ten days for the title of the World Champion. This sporting event is organized by the Professional Windsurfing Association’s (PWA) World Championship. The disciplines in which the windsurfers will compete are men freestyle, women freestyle and men slalom. The Sotavent beach is known for its winds, and that makes the competition a true spectacle that you wouldn’t want to miss.

Fuerteventura Dunes International Half Marathon

3rd November, 2018

Enjoy running and looking for something special to spice up your experience? Consider this annual half marathon in Fuerteventura – a race of 21 km with almost its entire track going through sand dunes. To participate, you would have to make your inscription online, the admission fee is 35 euro and a pasta party is included in the admission fee. The deadline for inscription is 8:00 am 11/2/2018 or when the participant limit is reached (300 for the Half Marathon). It is a unique experience that you will surely remember!  

International Kite Festival

8th November – 11th August, 2018

While some might not call it a sporting event, the International Kite Festival is a truly special event, and people from all over the world come to participate in it. Every year, professionals and enthusiasts come to the natural reserve of the Dunes of Corralejo for this annual tradition. The event is organized by the City Council of La Oliva and includes a great program of activities. The Festival lasts several days on different beaches in the Corralejo area. Actually, there is a kite race that is organized within the Festival – Rokakus Comet Match. Rokaku kites have hexagonal designs and fly at high speed. The participants compete for the title of ‘The Strongest Kite’ by trying to knock down other opposing comets until there is only one left in the air. This Festival is a perfect event to enjoy on a holiday with kids, or simply to have fun and let your inner child out.

Fuerteventura to Run, 4th edition

26th October – 5th November, 2018

This 4-days-long sporting event is all about running. It actually includes the Fuerteventura Dunes International Half Marathon, and completes to create a total of 60 km long track. The participants will be running for 4 days through the most charming spots of the island. The four days are gradually filled with running tracks, with the last day, 3rd of November, set apart for the Half Marathon. On the October 31st, 2018 in Majanincho starts the first leg of Corralejo area, approx. 9 km. Next day, November, 1st is planned for the second stage in Tindaya area, 14 km. Friday, November 2, 2018 is the start line in El Cotillo and a race of approx. 12 km. Finally, November 3rd is the date for the Half Marathon, 21 km.
