Waves in Lanzarote

The best waves of Lanzarote to surf you will find in the west and north of the island. The most recognized by the fans of this sport are the beaches of La Santa, El Quemao, Famara and Arrieta. The beach of El Quemao, located in the fishing village La Santa, is the most frequented by the experienced surfers because its waves are the strongest in the region. On this same beach, the Quemao Class event takes place every year, where professional athletes from all over the world challenge this dangerous wave, with demonstrations of great skill, strength and great physical condition. It is one of the most famouse waves of the Canary Islands and also, one of the most dangerous and difficult.

To get started with surfing or if your are a beginner, Famara beach, in the municipality of Teguise, is the best option. There are waves for all levels, you can learn or watch the most experienced surfers perform their feats. Here you can also do windsurf, kite, paddle.

Other beaches for the beginners of surfing are Órzola beach, La Cantería and Arrieta, all north of the island. The beach of Arrieta is ideal for children, as its sand bottom that cushions better the falls and the size of the waves that are more in line with their level.

Waves in La Graciosa

If you prefer tranquillity for surfing, the island of La Graciosa will please you. The ideal areas for surfing the waves are the beaches of La Francesa, Montaña Amarilla, El Corral, and Baja del Ganado.

The waves of this island are suitable only for the most experienced surfers, it is not advisable for beginners. The best season is between autumn and winter.

It is very easy to get to La Graciosa to enjoy your favourite sport and you will have no problem carrying your gear. In Órzola, in Lanzarote, there is a ferry that takes you to the island and, in just 25 minutes, you can enjoy the best waves of La Graciosa.

Keep in mind that on this island there are no paved roads, so, either you go on foot to the beach you would have to hire a taxi to transport the equipment and it will take you to all the beaches where you want to surf faster.

If you want to take advantage of the tranquillity of this beautiful island and enjoy nature to the fullest, there is a campsite near Caleta de Sebo on the beach of El Salado, where you can stay for up to seven days, but it is advisable that you book two months in advance as the number of camping slots is limited.
