What to do in Papagayo Beaches

If you travel to the Canary Islands, no matter what island you are on, you can not miss the paradise you will find on the beaches of Papagayo! We have already spoken to you on other occasions about the boat trips that you can take from Fuerteventura, activities with which you can also get to these beaches. Therefore, today we are going to focus on telling you what you can do if you decide to go on a trip to these beaches of Lanzarote. So take a piece of paper and a pencil and take a note!

How can we get there?

To get to this wonderful place you have the possibility to go from Marina Rubicón to Playa Blanca in a WaterBus. You can explore the south coast of the island in this mini-cruise and have fun on board while you arrive at your destination. The route is fast and short, so you will get to the paradisiacal beaches of Papagayo right away.

Where is it?

First of all, you’ll have to know where to find these wonderful beaches. Specifically, the beaches of Papagayo are the jewel in the crown of the beaches of the Canary Island of Lanzarote. You will be amazed by the color of the sand, the gold and the crystalline waters that this incredible corner holds.

There are almost three kilometers of beach where you will find different coves such as Playa Mujeres, Caleta del Congrio, Playa Blanca or El Papagayo.

During the summer the beaches are usually very crowded, but if you visit the islands in any other season of the year you will be lucky enough to enjoy these corners for you alone.

What to see?

If you want to do a bit more sightseeing and discover what surrounds this enclave, we recommend you visit the Castillo de las Coloradas, built between 1741 and 1744. It is located at the edge of the sea and served to warn of attacks by pirate ships that came from Africa and Europe. From this castle you can see the Isla de Lobos and the Island of Lanzarote. Such a landscape!

If you like history, you can not miss the Pechiguera Lighthouse, declared as a monument of cultural interest this year 2018. This maritime space separates the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

If you’re looking to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscapes that offer the Canary Islands, we recommend you take a walk through this place, not only for the incredible views, but to see how the sea hits the land and rocks. A spectacle of nature!

Nor can you miss Marina Rubicon, which is much more than a port. We already told you in a previous post what to do in this particular port. To give you an idea, Marina Rubicon is a kind of mini-city that has grown by the sea and where you can eat, shop and enjoy the good weather.

Where to eat?

From so much walking to discover the corners of the beaches and sunbathing, you will surely get hungry. If you’re hungry or just want to eat somewhere local, we recommend La Tegala street, a pretty semi-hidden street near the seaport where you’ll find restaurants whose food is spectacular.

You will be able to try very delicious and tasty dishes, international and mediterranean cuisine, for not much money.

What beaches to visit?

The beaches of Papagayo, as we said before, are the jewel of the crown. It’s turquoise and transparent blue waters will make you think you’re at the Caribbean. There are also other beaches, small ones too, you can visit and where you can sunbathe.

Further on the three kilometres, you will find Playa Blanca. This spot of the island used to be a fishing port that has transformed into a flagship for tourism in Lanzarote. But the special treat of this beach is that you can see the island of Fuerteventuras and Isla de Lobos from it.

Playa Mujeres is another spot you’ll find in this magical place. It’s really about one for the most visited places due to being the first accessible beach, but it has an expansion of 400 metres. There you will be able to enjoy the fine golden sand and completely transparent water.

If you are interested in relaxing, from Playa Mujeres you can access Playa Caletón San Marcial. It’s a tiny beach you can only access by foot. You will be able to get there through a path.

Now that you know what you can do in punta del Papagayo we can only recommend you to visit at least one of these beaches, because we’re sure you have never seen anything like it before!
